What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests.
Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you areto become better communicators.
At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
Who is the Stone Oak Toastmasters Club?
We're a conveniently located, "lunch-bunch" club comprised of a diverse group of individuals. We meet each Wednesday at 12PM in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio for one-hour with the common goal of becoming better communicators, leaders and presenters.
Please, feel free to drop in and visit one of our club meetings. There is no charge to visit as a guest, and you do not have to call in advance, all you need to do is just show up!
Our club offers easy ways to improve your public speaking and management skills, whether your an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro. For those starting out, you're paired with an experienced member who will mentor you as you begin to refine your skills.
After every prepared speech, you receive both written and oral feedback from members of the audience. That's what makes a Toastmaster meeting so great - practice, practice, practice supported by immediate feedback. This process allows you the presenter to instantly gauge whether or not your presentation got the desired audience reaction.
Additional benefits of our program include:
- Develop the ability to deliver a dynamic presentation to win the enthusiastic support of an audience
- Learn how to communicate complex ideas for maximum retention
- Techniques to handle props, handouts, and slide / Powerpoint presentations
